4oz / 32 Servings Caffeine-Free Organic & Wild-Crafted Loose Herb Tea
Bitter Comfort Tea is a thoughtfully assembled blend of eight organic and wild-crafted herbs — each selected for its traditionally recognized relationship to relaxation, nervous system comfort, and overall physical ease. French Lavender and Skullcap bring their deeply calming nervine properties. Valerian supports restful relaxation. White Willow Bark — the botanical that gave us aspirin — contributes its naturally occurring salicin. Feverfew adds its traditionally recognized head comfort properties. Yerba Santa brings respiratory ease. Juniper Berries provide gentle diuretic and cleansing support. And Ginger anchors the blend with warming, circulation-supporting depth. Together these eight herbs brew into a deeply comforting, bitter-forward cup that feels as restorative as it tastes. Slow-brewed using the traditional overnight soak and morning simmer method to extract the full depth of every ingredient.
Ingredients
- Organic French Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — One of the most beloved calming and nervine herbs in the European herbal tradition — its naturally occurring linalool and linalyl acetate compounds have been traditionally valued for supporting a calm, settled nervous system and overall relaxation. Adds a delicate floral note to the blend.
- Organic Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) — A deep-rooted traditional European nervine and relaxation herb — traditionally combined with other calming herbs for supporting restful relaxation and easing nervous tension. Valerian contributes the characteristic earthy, grounding depth to this blend.
- Wild-Crafted White Willow Bark (Salix alba) — White Willow Bark is the original botanical source of salicin — the naturally occurring compound from which aspirin was chemically derived in the 19th century. Used for centuries across European and indigenous North American herbal traditions for supporting natural physical comfort and the body's natural anti-inflammatory balance. Wild-crafted for optimal naturally occurring salicin content. See safety notes below.
- Organic Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) — A traditional European herb with a long-documented history of use for supporting head comfort and overall natural anti-inflammatory wellness. Its naturally occurring parthenolide compounds have been studied for their relationship to healthy prostaglandin balance and overall comfort wellness.
- Wild-Crafted Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon californicum) — A sacred and aromatic herb of the California coastal mountains — its name means "holy herb" in Spanish, reflecting the reverence in which indigenous Chumash and other California peoples held it as a respiratory and overall wellness botanical. Traditionally valued for supporting comfortable, healthy respiratory function and overall respiratory wellness.
- Organic Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) — One of the most consistently recognized nervine herbs in North American herbal practice — classified as a premier nerve tonic by Dr. John Christopher's School of Natural Healing. Its naturally occurring baicalin and flavonoid compounds support healthy GABA-A receptor activity and overall nervous system calming. Contributes a gently grounding, earthy dimension to the blend.
- Organic Juniper Berries (Juniperus communis) — Aromatic, slightly piney, and traditionally valued across European folk medicine as a gentle diuretic and kidney wellness herb. Contributes a clean, resinous note to the blend and supports the body's natural fluid balance and urinary wellness.
- Organic Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale) — The warming anchor of this blend — recognized by DrAxe.com, HerbDoc (Dr. Schulze), and Dr. John Christopher's School of Natural Healing as a foundational circulatory and digestive wellness herb. Ginger's naturally occurring gingerols and shogaols add bright warming depth and support healthy circulation throughout the body.
How to Brew
1. Place 2 tablespoons of loose herb tea into 20 oz of distilled water in a glass or stainless steel pot.
2. Let soak overnight at room temperature.
3. In the morning, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 minute. Strain and drink warm.
4. Don't discard the used herbs. Return them to the pot, add 1 tablespoon of fresh herbs and another 20 oz of distilled water. Let sit overnight and repeat. Used herbs can be reused for up to 3 days before discarding.
Optional: A touch of raw honey softens the bitterness beautifully and adds its own naturally soothing properties to the cup.
