The Cayenne pepper is commonly known as the chili pepper, frequently used to add flavor and spice to dishes. The spicy taste of a Cayenne pepper comes from its constituent called Capsaicin. The amount will vary in every species of the herb. Although it is called a pepper, it does not derive from the piper genus like the black pepper and is instead a capsicum. The word “capsicum” is derived from a Greek word meaning “to bite”. The Cayenne pepper is also a renowned herbal supplement traditionally used for therapeutic purposes.

Cayenne is a small shrub or plant that typically grows in a tropical environment, and can live for decades as it is a biennial or annual shrub. These plants can grow up to a height of 2-3 feet. The Cayenne peppers themselves are capsicums that grow 10-25 centimeters in length. The herb is predominantly red in color, skinny, and has a curved tip. Common names used for cayenne include: Capsicum, Capsicum annuum (Latin botanical name), Bell Pepper, and Chili Pepper to name a few.

Belonging to the same family as the tomato, Cayenne is a small plant with white colored flowers. The fruit is green when unripe, and turns red after ripening. The plant is native to Brazil, and today, is found and cultivated in the temperate areas of India.

Common Uses for Cayenne:

  • *Improving digestion
  • *Applied to the skin for arthritis pain and other conditions
  • *Nerve pain

Despite the hot and biting taste, Cayenne can alleviate these symptoms and leave you feeling rejuvenated.

Other Benefits:

  • Rich in vitamin C and vitamin A*
  • May improve skin health and prevent aging*
  • Helps to relieve anxiety and stress*

Benefits and Healing Effects:

The vitamin A and C content in a chili pepper is 6 times more than an orange fruit. It is also a rich source of other vitamins such as vitamin B2, B6, E, riboflavin, niacin, and folate. It is also an adequate source of potassium, iron, magnesium, manganese, and macro-nutrients. It also contains essential amino acids: tryptophan, lysine and phenylalanine that cannot be synthesized in the human body.

Cayenne pepper is mostly used as a spice in culinary dishes to add a spicy flavor to them, but it can also be used as a fomentation, oil, liniment or salve. The powder of the cayenne pepper is used as a spice in many cuisines all over the world.

Some key examples of the healing effects of cayenne are as followed:

  • Acts as a natural painkiller
  • Helps in treating headaches
  • Helps to lower heart rate and blood pressure
  • Anti-inflammatory properties that are useful in aiding oral diseases
  • Helps to improve the immune system
  • Supports detoxification
  • Improves symptoms of psoriasis
  • Helps in alleviating nerve pain, chronic pain, and nerve damage
  • Can be used as a topical remedy in many cases including rheumatism, snake bites, wounds, sores, and lower back pain
  • Can be used to alleviate a toothache

Cayenne as a Painkiller:

The cayenne pepper contains many useful medicinal chemicals including capsaicin, capsorubin, rubixanthi carotenoids, flavonoids, steroidal saponins, and more. The capsaicin stimulates the circulation and alters the temperature regulation, therefore desensitizing the nerve endings and acting as a local analgesic.

How to Use Cayenne Pepper at Home:

Cayenne peppers can be used in multiple ways, though the primary method of intake is powder form. Various other methods include applying the paste of the fruit, swallowing capsules, and regular intake of the cayenne pepper with food.

A home remedy for a headache includes mixing the paste of the fruit with sandalwood powder and then applied on the forehead. To relieve a sore throat or improve the voice, the powder should be mixed with honey or sugar and be take in the dose of 3-5 gm. For pain, the application of cayenne peppers with castor oil is proven to be effective.

Recommended Dosage:

Cayenne pepper is used as both food and medicine. One of its active components, capsaicin, has potent pain-relieving properties and makes up a major ingredient of many topical pain relief creams. It has also been used in supplement form for a variety of purposes, including digestive health. For the most part, no official standard dosages exist.

You may take 500 mg of cayenne pepper in capsule form up to two times each day.

Orally administered forms of cayenne are typically used to reduce inflammation along your digestive tract. You should be aware, however, that cayenne pepper capsules may cause stomach irritation if used excessively or improperly.

Possible Side Effects:

The excessive intake of the cayenne pepper may cause hyperacidity, stomach ulcers, a spike in blood pressure, and oral cavities.

When taken by mouth, capsicum is likely safe when consumed in amounts similar to that found in food. Commonly known side effects pertaining to the spice level of cayenne includes stomach irritation, sweating, runny nose, and watery eyes.

However, as is the case with taking any supplement while you are pregnant or breastfeeding or taking medication, you should always consult your healthcare professional prior to usage.

CAYENNE PEPPER pills

Let me start by saying, I am a 60-year-old breast cancer survivor. Because of chemo and radiation treatments, I have had in the past 2 pulmonary embolisms which made it necessary to be on Xarelto (blood thinner) for the rest of my life! I am not a fan of big Pharma! So, I started looking for something in nature to do the job of an overly expensive ($326. per month) manmade drug. These pills are the answer to my search. 1 pill a day keeps my blood thin and my blood pressure @ 120/65. I am proof you don't need big Pharma to be healthy! My only suggestion is to take the pills with plenty of cold water and eat maybe a bite or 2 of a banana right after just to give the cayenne something to absorb into otherwise there is an extremely warm feeling in your belly that can be uncomfortable. Highly recommend!
