Common Uses for Beet Root Powder:

  • Help to relieve inflammation
  • Aid in detoxification
  • Support digestive health
  • Energy & Stamina

Beet root, also known as Beta vulgaris, is a herbaceous biennial (infrequently perennial) that is typically grown today as an annual. Beets are believed to originate along the coasts of the Mediterranean and were first cultivated for their edible leaves before the roots. Beets are typically oval or oblong in shape, with smooth, reddish-purple skin. Beets have a network of white veins running through them, while at the center of the beet is a small, dark core.

Beet root is highly rich in antioxidants, as well as disease-fighting phytonutrients, vitamins, and trace minerals. A specific type of phytonutrient that beet root is particularly high in is called betalains, which have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and supply many of the health benefits of beets. Beet root also helps in relieving inflammation and promotes heart health. Beet root may also be able to help aid in detoxification, boost brain function, support digestive health, and more. Beet root has been a staple in traditional medicine for centuries.

Nitric Oxide Boost: Beetroot is a natural source of nitrates, which the body can convert into nitric oxide, a molecule that supports healthy circulation and may help maintain blood pressure within the normal range.

Recommended Dosage:

For general cardiovascular support, the recommended dosage of Beet Root is 1000 mg – 2000 mg (2 – 4 capsules) per day taken with food. If using Beet Root to support athletic performance or endurance, a higher dose of 3000 mg – 4000 mg can be taken about an hour prior to exercise. It’s typically not recommended to exceed a dosage of 5000 mg per day.

Side Effects

There are no serious side effects from taking beet root.

Beet Root supplements are well tolerated and side effects are rare at normal doses. Side effects including GI discomfort or decreased blood pressure are sometimes reported, and Beet Root is best avoided if you’re suffering from low blood pressure.

Taking high doses of Beet Root for an extended period of time can cause a decrease in calcium levels, so its recommended to either cycle Beet Root powder or to increase your calcium intake if using it for an extended period of time.

Taking Beet Root in high doses can cause a pink tint to urine in people suffering from iron deficiencies. If your urine becomes pink after using Beet Root it is recommended to check your iron levels.

As is the case with taking any supplement while you are pregnant or breastfeeding or taking medication, you should always consult with your healthcare professional prior to usage.
