Wild lettuce, also known by its Latin name, Lactuca Quercina, or by another name, oakleaf lettuce, is a annual/biennial plant that can grow up to 1 meter tall. The species is hermaphrodite and is pollinated by insects. Although research on this plant is limited, it shares many of its traits with other wild lettuce species in the genus Lactuca, which have traditional usages and potential health benefits.
Like other wild lettuces, Lactuca quercina contains compounds such as lactucopicrin and lactucin, which have both sedative and pain-relieving effects. In traditional medicine it has been used for relief from mild pain, headaches and insomnia. Other traditional usages of wild lettuce species often include relief from coughs and other respiratory issues. The mild sedative properties may help to relax the airways and reduce coughing. Wild lettuce species have also been traditionally used to support mental relaxation and help to alleviate anxiety and mild stress.
Wild lettuce also contain various antioxidants that help to neutralize free radicals in the body. This can help to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, while also potentially helping to support general wellness and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Additionally, some studies on Lactuca species indicate antibacterial activity against certain bacteria, possibly due to the presence of compounds like sesquiterpene lactones, which are also found in other medicinal plants.
Recommended Dosage:

Wild lettuce species should be used with caution, as higher doses can have stronger sedative effects and may cause nausea or other side effects.
